November 2024 - Respect

Hello awesome parents and students!

Last month, we focused on Courage and how the strength found within our hearts can conquer our fears! This November we will shift our focus to Respect!

Virtue of the Month: Respect

As snowflakes start to fall and the days get shorter, the students and staff of Duclos school recognize the importance of Respect. This November, the significance of showing respect will be shared within Monday morning assemblies, as well as within the classrooms. Mrs. Baillargeon and Ms. MacEachern explained how students can show respect to places, things, and people by thinking before we act. Students watched "The Respectful Rhino" during assembly, and discovered how we can show respect to people, places, and things in our everyday lives.

If you would like to listen to this story at home please check out this read-aloud at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYG5ac-8g8Q

On Friday, November 8, students remembered those who have served for our country, with a Remembrance Day presentation!

Kimochis

Students continue to learn about the Kimochis characters and “Keys to Communication'' through lessons facilitated by their classroom teachers and by our counsellors.  We now have several “Kimochis Corner” bulletin boards up around our school.  These boards help students remember the characters and the keys as well as the character kotowazas. Kotowaza means proverb in Japanese.  The "Kimochi kotowaza’s" are meant to inspire students to practice meaningful actions when they have a specific feeling.  Below you will find the Kotowazas that we have linked to each Kimochi character:

Lovey Dove - Friendly faces create friendly spaces.

Bug- Make room for everyone

Huggtopus- Everyone makes mistakes, everyone deserves a redo.
